This worksheet is designed to enhance learners' understanding of manipulating radicals and rational exponents through addition and subtraction.
In Section A, students work on simplifying various expressions by combining like radicals and rational exponents, reinforcing their skills in identifying and working with similar terms. The radicals and rational exponents themselves do not need simplifying at this point.
Section B and Section C require students to simplify radicals and rational exponents before collecting like radicals and rational exponents. Each section consists of 8 questions which get increasingly more difficult.
Students will problem solve in Section D as they complete two addition pyramids, where they must find sums of radicals and rational exponent values to complete the puzzles, and calculate the perimeter of two polygons where lengths are given as exact values.
