CCSS Description: Add and subtract within 1000, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method. Understand that in adding or subtracting three-digit numbers, one adds or subtracts hundreds and hundreds, tens and tens, ones and ones; and sometimes it is necessary to compose or decompose tens or hundreds.
Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.
Learners will mentally add and subtract multiples of 1,000 throughout this worksheet and become more confident when working with four digit numbers.
In section A, students will complete six addition pyramids. All numbers are multiples of 1,000 and the pyramids will require using addition and subtraction to solve.
Next, learners will complete two addition wheels. Here multiples of 1,000 are added and subtracted from 1,083 and 1,940.
All answers are within 10,000.
