CCSS: 3.MD.D.8, 6.G.A.1
CCSS Description: Solve real world and mathematical problems involving perimeters of polygons, including finding the perimeter given the side lengths, finding an unknown side length, and exhibiting rectangles with the same perimeter and different areas or with the same area and different perimeters.
Find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes; apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
This series of differentiated worksheets enables students to recognise that shapes with the same areas can have different perimeters and vice versa. This version sees students considering triangles with the same area and they are asked to measure the perimeter of these triangles with a ruler to discover that the perimeters are not the same. Then in sections B and C learners will look at triangles and rectangles with the same area and compare their perimeters.
