Suitable for Grades: 5th Grade
CCSS: 5.NBT.A.2, 5.NBT.B.6
CCSS Description: CCSS Description: Explain patterns in the number of zeros of the product when multiplying a number by powers of 10, and explain patterns in the placement of the decimal point when a decimal is multiplied or divided by a power of 10. Use whole‑number exponents to denote powers of 10.
CCSS Description: Find whole‑number quotients of whole numbers with up to four‑digit dividends and two‑digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
Once students are comfortable with their times tables facts, they can begin to multiply and divide larger numbers mentally. This worksheet will see learners dividing multiples of ten. In section A and B, students will begin by dividing ten pairs of numbers such as 450 ÷ 90 and 5600 ÷ 70, including some questions presented in fraction form.
Section C consists of three word problems to answer, such as "how many buses are needed for a school trip?" A useful point to discuss would be why the operation used is division.
This worksheet is paired with ‘Multiplying by Multiples of Ten’.
