This worksheet will help your learners simplify and evaluate with fractional indices. They will begin by writing algebraic bases and fractional indices in root form, starting with unit fractions and progressing to fractions such as ⅔. Next, in section B, students do the opposite as they convert algebraic terms from root form to index form.
Sections C and D require learners to find the value of numerical bases and fractional indices. You may wish to allow the use of calculators here as students have to find the value of powers such as 7^5. In section C, all bases are integers and in section D bases are fractions or decimals.
Lastly, section E sees pupils finding missing values to make statements correct. Here they could be working out a missing base or index.
