Cazoom Maths has provided a number of different polygons worksheets suitable for all abilities. You will find a worksheet here with everything you need when identifying and naming polygons as well as the formulas for calculating the angles.
Polygons are flat two-dimensional shapes that are made of straight lines. All the lines need to be connected up, creating a closed shape. The polygons can have any number of sides.
A regular polygon has all sides and angles equal. If the sides and angles are not equal then it is an irregular polygon.
The angles of a convex polygon are all pointing inward, meaning that no internal angle can be more than 180°. If an angle is greater than 180°, then the polygon is concave.
The border of a simple polygon has only one boundary and isn’t crossing over itself, while the complex one does.
It is really important to always remember that the sides and angles of a regular polygon are all equal.
The formula for calculating the size of the angles is really easy.
Formula = (n-2) x 180° : n
n = number of sides
Example: Calculate the size of the angles in a regular octagon
(8-2) x 180° : 8 = 6 x 180° : 8 = 135°
